Antique French Quilt Coat c.1880's
Antique French Quilt Coat c.1880's
Made with an Antique French Patchwork quilt with textiles dating from 1880-1900.
Indigos, florals, ticking stripes, ditsy patterns, woven plains. This quilt has it all, with a wonderful colour mix of reds, creams, blues, and some lilacs.
Very light weight, with no padding. Just layers of fabric providing the body of the quilt, and light quilting holding it. And so it has a lovely drape. Some of the fabric pieces are a little delicate and a couple have worn through in places with pin holes on a few of the ticking stripes (pictured). I believe this adds to the character and story of the Quilt and the Coat.
There are some small marks on the inside of the jacket (see photos), and a few on the outside, notably the rust stain of an 'S' hook on the reverse (pictured) which I think is just wonderful!
The reverse of the quilt (inside of the jacket) is a cream base with cream/red polka dot diamonds. This is visible of the cuff is turned back.
Shawl collar design with Patch pockets and side slits. Trimmed with 100% cotton Navy Blue binding.
