Here is a Duster Coat, made from a patchwork of pieces of Antique Linen Hungarian Grain sacks from my collections of textiles.
These linen textiles are close to my heart as I have collected and worked with them for many years. Each grain sack would have a different decorative stripe on it so that the farmers (in the 1920's from when these linen pieces date) could recognise their sacks at the market. Such history and character, and so unique.
The textiles were hand-woven on narrow looms. Textures and weights vary but all are substantial and fairly heavy, making for a wonderful feeling garment.
The combination of whites and creams and oatmeal colours combined with the red and blue stripes, make the patchwork really come to life. This is truly a One Of A Kind heirloom garment.
Unlined, loose shape, with a generous ‘inset sleeve’ cut at the shoulder for a neat shoulder fit. 3/4 sleeve length (please note the length - the sleeves are shorter on this coat) and rounded collar with large patch pockets. Trimmed with 100% cotton ecru herringbone binding.
Can be worn with a belt (though the belt pictured is not included).
